Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 1 November 2022

Amid multitudes of sycophants (vs.5,11), God was able to find a voice to speak for Him and confront the king with the truth. Notice the advice the king’s messenger gave to Micaiah (v.12) and his response (v.13). How do you respond when people counsel you to lower your standard? Many leaders, both secular and spiritual, are not doing well and God needs us, like Micaiah, to confront them with the truth.

Observe that even in the face of intimidations, Micaiah did not compromise his stand as the true prophet of God (vs.23‐27). To stand for God, we must be ready to face rejection, and persecution and be prepared for the consequence (Matthew 10:28; Exodus 23:2). The sarcastic comment (v.14) and satirical parable (v.16) were meant to draw Ahab’s attention to the fact that he was no longer relevant to God’s agenda, but he seemed to have lost all sensitivity to the voice of wisdom (v.17).

The narrative from vs.18‐22 was a timely warning for him but he never took God’s word seriously, just like the proverbial dog that would not listen to the hunter’s whistle because it is destined to get lost. What did he do instead (v.29)? We can never outsmart God.
